Thursday brought news that Liverpool had made a £50m bid to buy Yankuba Minteh.
BBC Sport reporting that the scousers had seen that offer rejected out of hand by Brighton.
The broadcaster now saying that Liverpool have upped their bid by £10m.
However, BBC Sport stating that this £60m second bid has also been instantly knocked back.
They add that their information is that Brighton are insisting on £70m for Yankuba Minteh.
An interesting transfer window move from Liverpool, especially as Yankuba Minteh is currently out injured. The specialist Premier Injuries site reports that the winger isn’t expected to return from his calf injury until late in October at the earliest.
Newcastle United paid £7m in summer 2023 for the winger and he went on loan to Feyenoord for the 2023/24 season.
Then when the emergency June 2024 PSR crisis hit, Yankuba Minteh was then sold for a reported £33m to Brighton without playing a single minute of football for NUFC.
Elliot Anderson was also sold for £35m in June 2024 to help create an instant profit of more than £50m on the pair compared to their book value at the time, to cover the PSR shortfall. Anderson recently went to Manchester City for £116m, Newcastle United without any sell-on clause in place.
Whether Liverpool go back to Brighton with an improved bid for Yankuba Minteh remains to be seen but as the potential sale price of the 22-year-old goes up and up, Newcastle United fans will no doubt be pondering whether or not NUFC insisted that a sell-on clause was included when they sold the then 20-year-old to Brighton…
