Liverpool plan to deploy Rio Ngumoha on the right wing if they sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Barcola has been touted as Mohamed Salah’s replacement on the right flank, but Liverpool plan to use him on the left, where Ngumoha is more comfortable.
The 17-year-old is now expected to play as a right winger, which could increase his chances of getting regular game time next season.
Ngumoha is not guaranteed a starting berth, particularly if Liverpool sign Ibrahim Mbaye, who is a natural right winger.
The English forward has twice played as a right winger and has also been deployed there in Liverpool’s pre-season games.
Ngumoha’s pace and dribbling would still make him dangerous in one-on-one situations despite the potential positional switch,
He would also be able to attack from the outside and help Liverpool stretch defences, potentially making him an important weapon against low blocks.
The young attacker would have to adapt quickly to secure a regular starting role and fulfil his potential.
Barcola’s arrival could also affect Cody Gakpo’s future. Liverpool would be open to selling the Netherlands international to create room for Barcola.
They have exhausted their non-homegrown player slots after signing Ronaldo Araujo on loan from Barcelona, meaning they would need to sell or loan out a player to register Barcola.
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Gakpo and could step up their interest if Liverpool open the door for a move.
