Liverpool's Premier League Season Begins

Liverpool's new era under Head Coach Andoni Iraola begins tomorrow evening with their Premier League opener against Newcastle United at St James' Park. The match promises a thrilling start to the season as the two sides resume their rivalry, one that has been reborn in recent years - much thanks to Newcastle's dominant victory in the Carabao Cup final two seasons ago, which was followed by Alexander Isak's acrimonious transfer to the Reds last summer.

Liverpool head to St James' Park with a mixed bill of health: Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley, and Giovanni Leoni are all still recovering from long-term injuries, whilst Joe Gomez is also out with the knock he sustained at the start of pre-season.

The LFC Transfer Room's predicted line-up for Liverpool:

  • Alisson Becker (GK)
  • Milos Kerkez
  • Virgil van Dijk (C)
  • Jérémy Jacquet
  • Jeremie Frimpong
  • Ryan Gravenberch
  • Dominik Szoboszlai (VC)
  • Florian Wirtz
  • Cody Gakpo
  • Rio Ngumoha
  • Alexander Isak

Cody Gakpo and Jérémy Jacquet are perhaps the players with the most doubt surrounding their inclusion. For Gakpo, it depends on his rumoured move to Tottenham and whether the club would rather protect that prospect than deploy him at St James' Park.

Meanwhile, Jacquet's involvement comes down to preparedness. The Frenchman only played one half of football for Liverpool in the pre-season. We will only find out when the official line-ups are released if Iraola feels Jacquet is ready to play 90 minutes.

Newcastle Predicted XI

Newcastle are currently without Joelinton and Valentino Livramento due to injury amidst huge changes to a squad that has been transformed this transfer window.

The LFC Transfer Room's predicted line-up for Newcastle:

  • Lukas Hornicek (GK)
  • Lewis Hall
  • Sven Botman
  • Malick Thiaw
  • Amar Dedić
  • Aladji Bamba
  • Jacob Ramsey
  • Yoane Wissa
  • Harvey Barnes
  • Anthony Elanga
  • William Osula
