Texas quarterback Arch Manning, a redshirt junior, has been named to this year’s Davey O’Brien Award preseason watch list, according to the Davey O’Brien Foundation’s announcement this week.
The honor is given each season to college football’s top quarterback.
Following Manning’s notable victorious performance in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl versus Michigan last season (after the Longhorns were robbed of a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff just weeks prior), Manning was named to honor of the O’Brien Award’s Postseason Great 8 list.
Several Longhorn legends have won the O’Brien Award over the years, including former Texas running back Earl Campbell in 1977 (back then, the award recognized the top player in southeastern U.S.), former Texas quarterback Vince Young following a BCS Championship-winning season in 2005, and, most recently, former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy following the Longhorns’ most recent national championship appearance, in which Texas fell to Alabama in the 2009 BCS Championship game (McCoy was also a finalist for the O’Brien Award following the 2008 college football season.) Former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was an award semifinalist in 2024.
