Los Angeles Dodgers could turn to former top prospect Alek Thomas after right fielder Andy Pages suffered a hand fracture during the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Pages was hit by a pitch during Friday night’s 5-4, 10-inning victory over Pittsburgh and is expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks. The injury could keep him out for most of the remainder of the regular season, creating a significant setback for Los Angeles.

However, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts remains optimistic that Pages will return before the end of the season.

“I would expect him back. Knowing him, on the earlier side,” manager Dave Roberts said (via MLB.com). “There’s still time in the season for him to be back. But I feel for him because he was having such a good year and he likes to play. But yeah, we’ve got to move on and hold down the fort until he’s back.”

With Pages heading to the injured list, the vacant roster spot could go to Thomas, who previously played for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Thomas has appeared in 55 games this season, hitting .296/.362/.493 with seven home runs and 40 RBIs. He has also recorded four stolen bases, 36 strikeouts and 23 walks.

Fabian Ardaya reported on X (formerly Twitter) that the Dodgers are expected to promote Thomas, writing:

“The Dodgers are expected to call up outfielder Alek Thomas with Andy Pages landing on the IL with a hand fracture, sources tell The Athletic.

Dodgers acquired the former Arizona OF earlier this year. Has had an .855 OPS with OKC and, most importantly, can play CF.”

Thomas’ defensive ability and speed could provide valuable depth for the Dodgers while Pages recovers. The 26-year-old’s experience in the outfield makes him a natural option to help cover the vacancy.
