More than three months into their reign as United Football League champions, the Louisville Kings are coming home to celebrate.
Lynn Family Stadium will host the festivities, which run from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16. Attendees will have the chance to meet coach Chris Redman and select players from the team, take photos with the United Bowl trophy and more.
The Kings' inaugural UFL season got off to a rocky start, with three consecutive losses out of the gate. Redman & Co. responded, however, by winning eight of their next nine games — capped off by a 27-20 victory in the United Bowl over the DC Defenders.
"Winning the United Bowl was an incredible accomplishment for our players, our coaches, our fans and everyone who believed in this team; but getting to bring that championship home and celebrate it with the people of Louisville makes it even more special," Redman said in a statement Monday, Aug. 17.
The Kings' five home games drew a total of 55,975 people to Lynn Family Stadium. Their average announced attendance of 11,195 (roughly 73% capacity at the soccer venue) ranked second in the UFL.
"Louisville embraced this team from the beginning, and our players felt that support every step of the way," Redman said in Monday's statement. "We can't wait to share this moment with our fans and celebrate what we accomplished together. This is their championship, too, and we're incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this season so special."
