LSU OC Charlie Weis talks facing Blake Baker's defense

LSU football has one of the top play-calling duos in the SEC, with Charlie Weis coordinating the offense and Blake Baker leading the defense. LSU has high expectations on both sides of the ball given the talent level each coach has to work with.

Weis met with the media last week and talked about what it was like to face Baker's unit in practice every day.

"It's awesome going against him every day. I think I've been lucky, too, to go against some really good defensive coaches. And I'm about ready to start working on somebody else other than Coach Baker because we've been going at it, feels like, for 50 practices. And he does a great job," Weis said.

Weis is familiar with LSU head coach Lane Kiffin. Weis worked with Kiffin at Alabama, FAU, Ole Miss, and now, LSU. Baker was part of LSU's previous staff under head coach Brian Kelly, but Kiffin opted to retain Baker after the stellar year LSU had on the defensive side of the ball.

"It's just a constant we do this, they do that. We make this correction, they make another correction. And it's just a constant back and forth. He does a great job with those guys," Weis said.

Weis said he's enjoyed getting to know Baker off the field, as well.

"We're close by, going out to dinner and do things like that. So obviously this coaching industry, you spend a lot of time in the building and you spend a lot of time together," Weis said.
