The struggle for a second win continues.
The LSU soccer team played Arizona to a 1-1 draw Sunday morning in Tempe, Arizona. With the result, LSU moves to 1-4-1 on the season and Arizona moves to 2-1-1. The match wasn’t streamed, so all of my information comes from the stats.
Arizona outshot LSU 13 to 6 in the game and was more aggressive with six offsides to LSU’s 0. In the 44th minute, LSU got their goal with an Ava Galligan shot assisted by Senai Rogers. Arizona got their goal in the 68th minute on a Kyleigh Johnson shot assisted by Allyson Brown.
Perhaps the biggest story for LSU came from what happened in the 22nd minute. 21:35 into the game, LSU brought in Jocelyn Ollivierre and Jazmin Ferguson as substitutes. The duo are eligible to play for now under a Louisiana judge’s TRO that also applies to football players like Jack Pyburn. They are the first SEC athletes to appear in a game under the terms of the TRO, but they never signed professional contracts like the football players who’ve been under the spotlight recently.
LSU moves to 1-0-1 all-time against Arizona. The Tigers’ 1-4-1 record in their first six games is their third worst in their first six games in program history behind their 0-4-2 start to the 2020 season and their 0-6 start in an eventually winless 1997 season. Up next is a home game against Baylor on Thursday, September 3, at 7:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on SECN+.
