Lugnuts shut out Chiefs to take five out of six in series

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Lansing Lugnuts starting pitcher Tucker Novotny and a trio of relievers combined to hold the Peoria Chiefs to just two hits in a 5-0 win Sunday. The Lugnuts took five out of six from the Chiefs in the weeklong series.

Lansing got on the board in the second inning thanks to a two-run double by Rodney Green Jr.

Gunnar Gouldsmith added a solo home run in the fourth to make it 3-0.

Then in the seventh, an RBI double from Bryan Arendt and RBI single from Green Jr. pushed the lead to 5-0.

On the mound, Novotny tossed five shutout innings, allowing only two hits with six strikeouts. Griffin Kirn came in and pitched two spotless innings, and Mitch Myers and Luis Carrasco followed suit in the eighth and ninth. The trio of relievers faced the minimum 12 batters in the final four innings.

The Lugnuts improve to 53-64 with the win and begin a new series at the Great Lakes Loons on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
