Carlos Alcaraz and Serena Williams crashed out of US Open mixed doubles, but not before getting an impressive win. Alcaraz had great things to say about the legendary Williams after their victory.

The US Open mixed doubles event has seen some glamorous pairings. Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic participated, and Carlos Alcaraz played alongside Serena Williams.

Sabalenka and Djokovic faced an upset in the first round, but Williams and Alcaraz managed to make it all the way to the quarter-finals.

They recorded a win against Lloyd Glasspool and Erin Routliffe in the Round of 16 before succumbing to Flavio Cobolli and Belinda Bencic in the quarter-finals.

The duo won their game in the Round of 16 with a score of 5-3 and 4-1. After a tough first set, they got the job done with ease in the second.

Alcaraz is playing for the first time since his wrist injury in April kept him out of multiple major tournaments this year. And he praised Williams for being a calming presence for him.

“Everyone could see how nervous I was,” Alcaraz said. “I made a double fault on the first point. I was really, really nervous….

“I was out for almost five months. I almost forgot how it felt to step on court once again. (The nervousness) was just for a couple of games, then Serena made it easy for me.”

The duo may be out of the tournament already, but they drew a lot of attention with their performance. Now all eyes will be on Alcaraz to see how the Spaniard plays when the men’s singles begin.
