Following a decisive 42-7 victory over the Norwalk Truckers on Friday night, the Rams have secured their first two-game winning streak since 2016, marking a significant turnaround for a team that has faced challenges in recent seasons.
This win not only elevates Madison's record to 2-1 but also places them above the .500 mark for the first time since that same 2016 season. The Rams will look to extend their winning streak to three games as they prepare to face Wooster next week in their opening match of the Ohio Cardinal Conference (OCC). Achieving three consecutive wins would be a feat the Rams have not accomplished since 2015.
Leading the charge for Madison was sophomore sensation Damarrion Lloyd, who showcased his exceptional talent by rushing for 227 yards and scoring four touchdowns on just 11 carries. Lloyd is keenly aware of the struggles that have plagued Madison football in recent years, and he is determined to help reshape the narrative surrounding the program. "We just came out ready to play, man," Lloyd stated. "We had some hard practices this week because we knew we had a chance to win two in a row for the first time in a long time, so we worked with a chip on our shoulder."
He continued, expressing his ambition for the season, saying, "We are trying to change the narrative around Madison football. Our focus is on doing something big this season and making this year one that changes the future of the program." The Rams wasted no time in establishing dominance, scoring 28 unanswered points at the start of the game. Lloyd's contributions included a 17-yard touchdown run, an 8-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback to Daniel Norris, a 65-yard touchdown run, and a 64-yard touchdown pass from Cook to Camden Moysi on the first play of the second half.
Coach Kobi Johnson, now in his second year with the Rams, emphasized the importance of this achievement, stating, "It is big for us. Building the consistency within our coaching staff has really helped our kids buy back into our program and built trust." Johnson expressed confidence in his team, noting how their hard work over the past couple of years has fostered a newfound belief in their abilities.
