Mainz 05 has officially announced the loan of midfielder Hyun-seok Hong to FC Midtjylland, a prominent club competing in Denmark's top league and participating in the UEFA Conference League. Hyun-seok Hong, who has earned 16 caps for the South Korean national team, had a challenging season last year. He began his journey on loan at FC Nantes before moving to KAA Gent for the latter half of the season. Despite his efforts, he found it difficult to secure a regular spot in the lineup.
Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert addressed the rationale behind the loan, emphasizing Hong's strong performance during preseason training. “Hyun-seok showed tremendous commitment and excellent physical condition during preseason training with us,” Bungert stated. However, he also noted the intense competition for places within the squad, which limited Hong's chances of getting on the pitch.
Bungert expressed optimism regarding Hong's future at FC Midtjylland, highlighting the club's involvement in multiple competitions, including domestic league matches, cup fixtures, and European contests. “We hope that he gets the playing time he needs there, given his club’s participation in the league, cup and Conference League, and that he can work his way back into the spotlight,” he added.
