The near future of WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns will feature some high profile title defences on Raw and Premium Live Events as the company's fall schedule becomes a little clearer.
This is per WrestleVotes on Fightful Select, who noted that both Penta and LA Knight are in the frame for shots at the strap in September and October. As they noted; "a matchup between L.A. Knight and WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns is currently on the table, with a 'strong sense internally' that it will take place at the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event on October 10th. After speaking with a talent, WrestleVotes learned that the feeling backstage is that Penta will be the winner of the ongoing luchadores tournament to determine a challenger to Reigns' title on the 9/14 Monday Night Raw in Mexico City."
The names won't come as too much of a surprise to those watching Monday Night Raw at present. The tournament to crown a contender for Mexico was something of a shock, but the brackets appeared to forecast a fairly smooth route to the final for Penta, including what could possibly be his first bout with brother Rey Fenix in the final should he too make it through manageable matches. The report added that: "A source within WWE views the ongoing tournament as a unique opportunity in the Mexican market, and they believe Penta is the correct choice to capitalize on that, regardless of who is or isn't in the tournament."
Meanwhile, as tensions continue to flare between the reformed Bloodline and their nearest rivals on the red brand, LA Knight has led the charge alongside breakout babyface Solo Sikoa and relative newcomer Royce Keys. Knight has repeatedly called Roman a "fraud", holding on to a grudge that's existed since the two last tangled in 2023. Knight, Sikoa and Keys defeated Jacob Fatu and The Usos at Summerslam, and 'The Megastar' has done everything he can since to parlay that into a title shot. It appears that - enormous Mexico City upset notwithstanding - the New Orleans PLE could indeed be where that goes down.
