The pair of Manuel Neuer and Jonas Urbig is one of the strongest goalkeeper duos in football. Bayern Munich have a legendary, experienced goalkeeper in Neuer, and a promising goalkeeper with elite potential. While Neuer hasn’t allowed as much playtime for his young apprentice as expected, there is little doubt that Urbig will be the man to replace Neuer. But this could happen at the national team level as well.

In an interview, Neuer was asked whether or not Jonas Urbig can be trusted as the future #1 goalkeeper. While the two goalkeepers are competitive with each other, Neuer is always friendly with his rival and it showed in his response.

“I believe that he can definitely be trusted. He has shown that in all competitions. Whether it’s the Bundesliga, the Pokal, or internationally in the Champions League, playing against the best teams and putting in good performances. I have a very good feeling about that,” Neuer told Sky Germany as captured by @iMiaSanMia.

It’s not like Neuer was gonna just say no and bash Urbig, but it is clear that he has major praise for his young apprentice. Fans will be hoping for a soon passing of the torch and to see Urbig dominate with both Bayern Munich and Germany for the next decade and then some. Could he be the chosen one?
