Martina Navratilova remains steadfast in her critique of including transgender athletes in women’s sports. This time, the Czech-American has strongly opposed WNBA star Gabby Williams’ pro-trans advocacy.

In an interview earlier this month, the Golden State Valkyries forward expressed support for the idea of having a transgender athlete in the WNBA. Reacting to this, Navratilova said that Williams’ stance completely shatters the purpose of keeping the WNBA exclusively for women.

The tennis legend said that including transgender athletes in a women’s-only league is a direct attack on female athletes.

“Not keeping women’s sports for females only is an attack on females- how do they not understand that??? 🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼”

Williams made it clear that she would have absolutely no issue playing with or competing against a transgender player in her league:

“I would welcome a trans athlete on my team or against my team, anytime. I don’t think it’s a problem in the world, it’s just another way to kind of attack trans people.”

The debate surrounding the transgender issue intensified after Sophie Cunningham said last month that she was not anti-trans, but would not want to see a biological male in a female-only locker room.

Martina Navratilova Lauds Charles Barkley for Supporting Sophie Cunningham’s Stance

Martina Navratilova applauded former NBA player Charles Barkley for supporting the petition that calls for the WNBA to enforce the female-only eligibility criteria strictly.

According to the former three-time Olympic champion Nancy Hogshead-Makar, Barkley said:

“I’m gonna keep this simple. Women deserve fair competition, and the @wnba should have clear female eligibility rules. That’s why I’m supporting @Hogshead3Au’s @Change petition. This shouldn’t be complicated.”

Reacting to this, Navratilova said:

“Thank you Charles!!!”

Hogshead-Makar is an open supporter of Sophie Cunningham’s stance on the transgender issue and launched the petition, calling for the WNBA to strictly enforce the female-only criteria.
