Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur said his team has no current plans to release Josh Jacobs despite the veteran running back being charged formally with two misdemeanors on Thursday.
"I fully anticipate him being a member of our team," LaFleur said after Friday night's preseason finale at Lambeau Field.
Jacobs, who is entering his third season with the Packers, was charged by the Brown County District Attorney's office with one count of battery and one count of criminal damage to property, which are both Class A misdemeanors. The charges stem from an allegedly violent incident in May in which Jacobs was arrested and jailed. He is due in court for the first time in November.
"I think you have to let everything play out, but I anticipate him being a member of our football team," LaFleur said.
Jacobs was at Lambeau Field for the preseason finale on Friday night but did not play.
When asked if he anticipated Jacobs playing in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, LaFleur declined comment due to not knowing how the NFL will handle the case moving forward.
Regardless of status on the legal side, Jacobs can be disciplined by the NFL at any time under the league's personal conduct policy.
The Packers face the Vikings in the regular season opener on Sunday, Sept. 13. First, the team will cut down the roster to 53 players on Sunday, and only MarShawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks are locks at running back behind Jacobs.
