Matt Ryan throws to Falcons WRs ahead of joint practice with Colts

The Atlanta Falcons hired former league MVP Matt Ryan as their president of football over the offseason, but the team still has a major question mark at the position Ryan used to play. The Falcons' quarterback competition has been well documented and remains unsettled heading into their second preseason matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

The two teams gathered on Thursday for their second joint practice in Indianapolis. Ryan, who was traded to the Colts in 2022 after 14 seasons in Atlanta, was again spotted throwing the Falcons wide receivers during warm ups.

Watch as Ryan tosses a pass to wide receiver Beaux Collins, as shared by Josh Kendall of The Athletic below.

The Falcons aren't expecting Ryan to make a comeback anytime soon, but it has to be a cool experience for the players to see the team's president of football show them how it's done.

Tua Tagovailoa is Atlanta's current starting quarterback, but the competition is far from over. In fact, one could say it hasn't really started yet due to Michael Penix Jr.'s status. Penix still needs to be cleared for contact, which gives Tagovailoa a major advantage.

However, Tua hasn't exactly grabbed the bull by the horns just yet. The veteran quarterback had an underwhelming debut in Friday's preseason-opening loss to the Denver Broncos. We'll see if he can bounce with a good day of practice in Indy.

Tagovailoa and the rest of Atlanta's starters won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Colts. Jack Strand will take about half of the snaps, while veteran Cooper Rush will play the other half, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.
