Mets Activate Justin Hagenman from Injured List, Option Dylan Ross to Triple-A Syracuse

The New York Mets have made a significant roster move by reinstating right-handed pitcher Justin Hagenman from the 60-day injured list. To accommodate his return, the team has optioned fellow right-handed reliever Dylan Ross back to Triple-A Syracuse. This decision comes as the Mets look to strengthen their pitching staff during a crucial point in the season.

Justin Hagenman, 29, has not taken the mound in a major league game since September of last year. His absence was due to a rib fracture sustained in mid-March, which placed him on the injured list for an extended period. After a lengthy recovery, Hagenman made his return to competitive play with the Single-A St. Lucie Mets on August 18. In a total of 9.1 innings pitched across appearances with Single-A, Double-A Binghamton, and Triple-A Syracuse, he managed to post an impressive 2.89 ERA, showcasing his readiness to contribute at the major league level once again.

Tonight, Hagenman is set to start for the Mets as they face off against the Tampa Bay Rays in the rubber match of their three-game series. His return is particularly timely, as the Mets aim to secure a win after dropping the previous game to the Rays. Hagenman’s performance will be closely watched, as the team hopes he can provide stability and depth to their pitching rotation.

On the other hand, Dylan Ross, 26, made his major league debut in last night’s game against the Rays. Although he had been called up to the Mets last September, he did not see any action at that time. Ross had a challenging season in the minors, with a 6.25 ERA and a 5.61 FIP, which raised questions about his readiness for the big leagues. However, he managed to impress in his debut by throwing a scoreless inning, demonstrating his potential despite the less-than-ideal statistics from earlier in the season.

As the Mets navigate the remainder of the season, roster decisions like these are critical. The team is currently in a competitive stretch, and having a healthy Hagenman back on the mound could be a pivotal factor in their pursuit of postseason success. Meanwhile, Ross will continue to develop his skills at Triple-A Syracuse, with hopes of returning to the major leagues as a more polished pitcher in the future.
