NEW YORK — Despite an uneven performance on Wednesday night, the Mets still have an opportunity to grab a series victory over the Brewers.

The Mets fell 8-1 in the middle game after Robert Stock gave up seven earned runs in four innings. The Mets' lone run came on a Francisco Alvarez RBI single.

The Mets and Brewers close out their three-game series at 7:10 p.m. on Thursday night at Citi Field.

The loss also saw Bo Bichette leave early after fouling a pitch off the inside of his left foot. Bichette is not in the lineup for Thursday's finale, with Brett Baty lined up at third base.

The Mets have now dropped three of their last five games to fall to 60-73, while the Brewers maintain their top spot in the National League with a mark of 82-51.

NY Mets, Brewers probable starting pitchers for Thursday game

The Mets will have one of the toughest tasks offensively on Thursday as they go up against NL Cy Young frontrunner Jacob Misiorowski.

The 24-year-old fireballer is 13-5 with a 1.68 ERA and an MLB-best 216 strikeouts in 145 innings across 24 starts. Misiorowski is on a run of four straight quality starts. He tossed six scoreless innings, scattering four hits and two walks and picking up six strikeouts in his latest start against the Braves.

Sean Manaea will be back on the mound for the Mets, making his 14th start and 28th appearance. He holds a 4-5 record with a 4.31 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. The home run ball has hurt the left-hander in recent games. He has allowed five home runs, including back-to-back-to-back blasts last time out, and given up a combined eight earned runs in his last two starts despite throwing 12⅓ innings.
