The New York Mets’ broadcast booth finished third in Awful Announcing’s 2026 MLB local broadcaster rankings. But even Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, and Ron Darling aren’t immune to technical difficulties.
On Tuesday night, the Mets hosted the Milwaukee Brewers at Citi Field. Milwaukee (81-51) and New York (60-72) were tangled at 2-2 when David Hamilton stepped to the plate in the top of the ninth. The Brewers had the bases loaded with two outs, and Hamilton slapped a line drive toward Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor.
Lindor dove for the ball, and SNY’s broadcast went completely dark, leaving fans in cruel suspense.

The X (formerly Twitter) reactions were as glorious as the play would have been if it aired.
“SNY doing their best Sopranos impression,” the This Day in Mets History account wrote.
“The SNY feed literally just cut out right as Francisco Lindor was making a game saving play and one of the best plays of this sh*t Mets season,” Andrew Rizzi wrote. “You can’t make this up.”
“I liked how SNY somehow shut off everyone’s TV at the most dramatic time in a lost season lmao,” Greg Kaplan wrote.
“THE MOST cartoon TV cutoff ever,” Tyler Center wrote. “Couldn’t have made it better if they tried.”
“I thought it was just me!” Blair Rothamel wrote. “I screamed!”
Did the feed cut off for everyone else too right before Lindor made that catch?
What has happened to SNY this year? Good lord.

Did anyone else’s feed go out right before that Lindor catch? Full black screen for 5 seconds waiting to see if he made the catch

The Mets’ official X (formerly Twitter) account posted the replay showing that Lindor made an incredible back-handed, diving catch.

Afterward, SNY’s Steve Gelbs interviewed Lindor about his spectacular catch on the field without interruption. Watch it below.
"I love playing defense. I love taking hits away and helping my pitchers out."
