After the Boston Red Sox moved on from Alex Cora, it was reported that the Philadelphia Phillies had offered him their managerial job.
The Phillies had moved on from Rob Thomson right after that, a decision that was seemingly made in hopes that Cora would take the job. Philadelphia didn't get the response it was looking for, deciding to give Don Mattingly the job.
Mattingly has done an excellent job with the Phillies, and everything seems to be working out for both sides.
As Cora looks to get back into Major League Baseball, there is a sense that the New York Mets could be his next team.
The Mets are searching for a new head coach after moving on from Carlos Mendoza this year, and Cora could be perfect for what the organization is looking to do. Regarding whether he'd actually want to coach, however, it doesn't sound like he's 100% set on managing next year.
“I think at one point, I’m gonna get back,” he said, per MassLive. “When? We don’t know. We don’t know.
“There’s three different opinions in that room up there. If you ask the boys, they want me to manage and they have their teams. If you ask Angelica, she’s very polite about it. Let’s see what the future holds.”
Cora has kids at home, a significant other, and other family members he has to worry about. Coming back into Major League Baseball isn't as simple as just deciding he wants to coach again and moving to a place like Queens.
It'll be interesting to see what direction he goes in, but this should have an impact on the Mets.
