Michael La Sasso makes comment about Phil Mickelson after winning LIV Golf Indianapolis

Michael La Sasso won his first ever professional tournament at LIV Golf Indianapolis on Sunday.

Phil Mickelson played a key role in Michael La Sasso joining LIV Golf earlier this year in January.

And the HyFlyers GC captain would have been hugely proud of his protege’s performance on Sunday at The Club at Chatham Hills.

Michael La Sasso‘s win at LIV Golf Indianapolis was hugely impressive as he held off Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau to become the league’s youngest ever winner.

Phil Mickelson, who has only played one LIV Golf event so far in 2026, was watching it all unfold on television at home.

La Sasso’s incredible round of 60 on Friday at LIV Indianapolis set him up perfectly to go on and win the tournament.

He followed that up with rounds of 66 and 65 to secure the victory in LIV’s final event of 2026.

La Sasso spoke to reporters after his final round at The Club at Chatham Hills on Sunday evening.

The 22-year-old was asked whether winning LIV Indianapolis was bittersweet without Mickelson in attendance.

“He sent us a text last night I know he was watching, he said it was the most fun he’s had,“ he replied.

“I’m sure he was watching and cheering us on today.

“I’m thankful for everything he’s done for me.“

It’s a real shame that Mickelson hasn’t played much in 2026. He clearly has a lot of off-course issues that he needs to address.

Hopefully he does exactly that and we get to see him back in action next year alongside La Sasso.

La Sasso was asked how important Mickelson was regarding his decision to join LIV Golf in the first place back in January.

“Yeah, he’s an absolute legend of the game,“ the young American admitted.

“He’s been absolutely unbelievable to me the entire year.

“I really can’t thank him enough for everything he’s done for me.“

Phil Mickelson obviously played a huge role in Michael La Sasso’s move to LIV Golf earlier this year.

La Sasso clearly thinks very highly of Mickelson, and the six-time major champion has undoubtedly helped out the young American throughout the season, in spite of his long-time absence from competitive action.
