Kailyn Hasty, a freshman cheerleader at Middle Tennessee State University, has been arrested twice within a few days, raising concerns ahead of the upcoming 2026 college football season. The first arrest occurred last Thursday when Hasty was taken into custody for allegedly assaulting an unnamed individual at an apartment complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. According to Larry Flowers, a spokesperson for the Murfreesboro Police Department, Hasty was identified as the primary aggressor in the situation. Following her arrest, she was released but faced further legal issues just two days later.
On Saturday, Hasty was arrested again during a traffic stop after the vehicle in which she was a passenger was pulled over for failing to maintain its lane. Complicating matters, the driver of the car had a protective order against Hasty. This violation led to her being arrested for breaching the order of protection, and she was subsequently transported to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center early Sunday morning.
In light of these events, Middle Tennessee State's spirit program coordinator, Brooke Legens, confirmed that Hasty is no longer part of the cheerleading team. In a statement to the student website Sidelines, Legens emphasized that Hasty's actions do not reflect the values of the university or the spirit program. "MTSU Spirit nor I or any of our coaches condone violence in any type and it will never be tolerated," Legens stated. She also highlighted the hard work of the athletes who represent the university at a high level.
