Mike Dunleavy sends clear message regarding Steph Curry's future with Warriors originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy did his best to end any speculation that star guard Steph Curry could potentially end his career somewhere other than Golden State.
Curry will be eligible to sign an extension with the Warriors later this offseason, and it certainly seems like both sides are preparing for that to happen.
"There's two things I'm confident about with Steph. He really, really wants to win and he wants to finish his career as a Warrior," Dunleavy said, via ESPN.
"I don't think that changes tomorrow, August 29th, start of the season, middle of the season, end of next season. Those things are going to be consistent."
In the end, if Curry wanted to walk away from the Warriors to play elsewhere, the organization would grant him his wish, but he hasn't shown any desire to do that, and the Warriors certainly don't plan to push him out the door.
"Ultimately it's his call, his decision, whether that's allowing his contract to run out and move on. Look, if he comes to me and wants to be moved, [controlling owner] Joe [Lacob] and I will talk it through. We wouldn't love it. But he's earned the right to do what he wants," Dunleavy said.
"But as far as the messaging or any idea that he'd be anywhere else, that's not a thing we're looking at or he's looking at."
Seeing Curry suit up in any uniform other than the Warriors at this point in his career would be extremely strange. Luckily, it doesn't sound like something we'll have to worry about.
