Mike Florio moots blockbuster Aaron Rodgers exit from Steelers before trade deadline

Mike Florio is still mooting a potential trade away from the Pittsburgh Steelers for Aaron Rodgers before the November trade deadline.

The 2026 season will be Rodgers’ final in the NFL after he announced he will be retiring at the end of the season.

Rodgers has remained with the Steelers as he reunites with former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy.

Having failed to make it past the Wild Card Round in the playoffs earlier this year, the 2026 season will mark a huge opportunity for Rodgers to leave the NFL on a high.

However, there is already a suggestion from Florio that Rodgers may not even see out the season with the Steelers.

Although the Steelers took the AFC North last season, there is an expectation for the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens to bounce back this year.

This will be Rodgers’ second season with the Steelers, but there is a belief from Florio that he could look to assess his options if Pittsburgh do not make a strong start to the season.

“I think – and I’m not rooting for this, but I’d be fascinated by it if it happened – it would be very good for our business because it would be a huge talking point,” said Florio.

“There’s a chance this thing goes sideways. You get to the trade deadline, and you could have Aaron Rodgers asking to go somewhere that needs a quarterback—some contender—because “get me the hell out of here, this is my last year, and I want to have a chance to play in the postseason.”

Rodgers has admitted he’s unlikely to play in the preseason, with the 42-year-old recently stating that it is not real football.

“So if they just can’t win games, it’s impossible to envision it now, but once we get into the week-after-week grind, if they’re losing and the pressure keeps building, who knows what’s going to happen?”

This would certainly be a blockbuster ending to Rodgers’ career in the NFL and it is difficult to imagine it playing out as things stand.

Stranger things have happened, and the four-time MVP will not be looking to go out on a damp squib.

However, it would take some extraordinary circumstances for things to unfold in the way Florio has suggested.
