Mizzou soccer concluded its non-conference schedule in a spectacular manner, delivering a commanding performance with a 5-0 victory over Southeast Missouri on Senior Night. This match marked the Tigers' most dominant showing of the 2026 season, highlighting the contributions of their talented freshmen.
Freshman forward Lana Adams and midfielder Rylie Morse each netted two goals, leading Mizzou's charge from the start. The Tigers set the tone early, scoring three times within the first 23 minutes of the match while limiting the Redhawks to a mere single shot throughout the entire 90 minutes.
Adams was the first to find the back of the net, opening the scoring in the 11th minute. She managed to slip behind the SEMO defense and faced the goalkeeper one-on-one, delivering a shot that was just tipped by the keeper before rolling into the net. This goal marked Adams' second of the season, following her impressive strike from 20 yards against Northern Illinois.
“Just got to find a way to put the ball in the back of the net, and that’s what I did,” Adams commented after the match. “Yeah, just got the ball, got in the box, and put it in.”
Just ten minutes later, Morse doubled the Tigers' lead with a stunning shot from 20 yards out that found the top-right corner of the goal, marking the first goal of her collegiate career. The duo of Adams and Morse has quickly become essential to Mizzou's attacking strategy in their debut season.
Adams struck again in the 23rd minute, outpacing a SEMO defender to seize another one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper. Her second goal further solidified her growing reputation as a key player for the Tigers.
In the second half, Morse added her second goal in the 65th minute, skillfully maneuvering around the SEMO defense before sending a shot into the net. This performance not only showcased her talent but also provided Mizzou with additional attacking options as they prepare for the upcoming conference play.
Landis Canada capped off the scoring for Mizzou in the 73rd minute with a curling shot from outside the box that clipped the post before finding the net. This goal marked Canada’s third of the season, following her two-goal performance against Northern Illinois.
While the offensive display was impressive, Mizzou's defense also shone brightly, outshooting SEMO 16-1 and placing 10 shots on target. The Redhawks struggled to create any significant chances, underscoring Mizzou's defensive dominance.
Head coach Stefanie Golan praised her team's ball control, stating, “When you have a lot of the ball, you don’t give up a lot of opportunities. The more you have the ball, the more you make them chase it.”
On Senior Night, senior goalkeepers Riley Wilkerson and Kate Phillips each played a half, allowing for a smooth transition as sophomore Addison Colangelo made her Mizzou debut in the final minutes. With both Wilkerson and Phillips graduating, Colangelo’s introduction signals a new chapter for the program, which will see 11 seniors leave after this season.
Reflecting on the impact of the senior class, Golan noted, “Where we are now is way beyond where it was when they started out. They’ve had a massive impact on that from on the field, off the field as well.”
This victory provides Mizzou with valuable momentum as they prepare to enter SEC play, with their next match scheduled against Oklahoma on September 11.
