Good morning, Bulldog fans! It’s Monday morning, which means your to-do list for the week is currently as long as it’s going to be all week. But before you attack the day, let’s take a quick tour through what’s making news in Bulldog Nation.
The biggest headline of the weekend was the Red and Black’s first scrimmage of the fall on Saturday. By all accounts it was a big day for the defense. That’s pretty standard early in camp, as the defense is perennially ahead of the offense. But it also makes sense given that the Dawgs return a ton of talent from a solid 2025 defense, and are breaking in some new faces at key spots on offense.
While the defense may have gotten the better of things, that doesn’t mean they were perfect, or that Kirby Smart didn’t make his displeasure with some defensive miscues known in his usual shy and retiring fashion.
Heard a few things from the UGA scrimmage today:
— Overall, it was a sloppy offensive performance: dropped balls, missed blocks, and a snap went over the head of Gunner Stockton in the red zone in good vs good, leading to a field goal, which there were a lot of.
— Freshman OL…
Remember, every time Kirby dog cusses someone for failing to execute to perfection, an angel gets its wings and Lane Kiffin finds another wrinkle. In other words, everyone wins.
Elsewhere in college football long time friend of the blog and ESPN analytics pro Bill Connelly notes that college football teams are scoring fewer points than a decade ago. The reasons are both complex and wholly predictable.
Finally, RIP to Tommy John, the former MLB pitcher who underwent an experimental surgery ina bid to save his career, and ended up not only making it back to the majors but winning 288 games over 26 seasons. Whatever you do today, it’s unlikely that you’ll have a complex orthopedic procedure named after you. That’s okay, you’re still going to do great things.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
