Multiple MLB teams troll Jayden Daniels over LSU disagreement

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has been in the news over the past week. When you’re a franchise quarterback in the NFL, that’s not new. And Daniels has had a terrific start to training camp, including a flawless performance in Wednesday’s joint practice with the Miami Dolphins.

But on Wednesday night, ESPN broke a story about Daniels sending a cease-and-desist letter to LSU, his alma mater, over his name, image and likeness (NIL). While some things remain unclear about what exactly transpired between Daniels and LSU, it seemingly began when the Tigers reissued the No. 5 jersey to sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett.

For his part, Daniels released a statement acknowledging a disagreement between the two sides, but said he was focused on the Commanders and that he hoped they would resolve the situation soon.

The story should have died, right? Not exactly, as the social media teams for various professional teams, specifically in Major League Baseball, have had some fun at Daniels’ expense.

The Philadelphia Phillies also joined in on the fun.

Make it 5 runs for the Phils in the 5th!

And the Minnesota Twins.....look at the scoreboard.

The Cleveland Guardians had the following X post.

It’s apparent that some of these social media teams lack creativity. Heck, even some minor league teams were joining in. Speaking of minor league teams, the New York Mets also shared a post trolling Daniels.

Stopped at 4 out of respect for Jayden Daniels #LGM#MetsWinpic.twitter.com/t0blh86TNM

What’s interesting about the Mets is they apparently like the No. 5. Fifth place in the National League East, and only five MLB teams have a worse record than New York. And, as of Sunday morning, 55 wins. But they are No. 1 in something: payroll. Yep, that’s right, the Mets. New York’s other team has a $357 million payroll for 55 wins and fifth place in the division.

But at least they have jokes.

When the New York Mets are making fun of you, things aren’t as bad as they appear. Daniels would certainly like this to go away soon, and it will, especially if he plays well. He hasn’t spoken to the media since this became public. That could change within the next week.

It’s not only MLB teams, as online ticket marketplace StubHub has even joined in.

For now, at least Daniels has given multiple MLB teams with sub-.500 records some content to enjoy on social media. Of the above teams, only the Phillies are above .500.
