Girona FC presented Abdul Mumin this Monday, the new player of the Girona team. The Ghanaian central defender joins the red-and-white project with the aim of contributing to the team and helping it achieve the challenge of returning to the First Division.
During his presentation, Girona FC president Delfí Geli highlighted the new player's experience and his ability to become an important asset for the team. “Mumin already has experience in the Spanish League, in the First Division, and in other leagues, and we believe he is a player who will be an important help for the team to become consistent and competitive in the Second Division,” he explained.
For his part, Girona FC's sporting director, Quique Cárcel, emphasized the defensive profile of the footballer and his ability to bring speed to the defensive line. “We were looking for a fast defensive player profile, and we think he can help us a lot. Logically, it wasn’t easy to bring him here because he could have had other offers, but in the end, he chose Girona, and we are very happy. He can provide that balance that the team will surely need,” he pointed out.
“I am physically and mentally ready to play”
Mumin explained that he arrives at Girona in good condition after participating in the preparation of the Ghana national team. “I feel very good. I returned before the last week and have played a couple of matches. I was with the Ghana team at the World Cup. Physically and mentally, I am ready to play,” he stated.
The defender also explained the reasons that led him to choose Girona. “I think it is the right club for me. It has a great reputation in Europe and is a big club. I think it’s a good project for me and for any footballer. That’s why I chose Girona,” he explained.
His first days in Girona have also been positive. Mumin especially highlighted the warm welcome he received from his new teammates and the staff. “The first days have been very good. They speak Catalan, which is a bit different from Spanish, and they speak very fast, but the players are very good people, and the staff is also very good. They have supported me very well, and I already feel like I’ve been here for a couple of months,” he commented.
“I feel very supported. The first days have been very easy because they have been very kind to me, both in the locker room and outside, and they have tried to help me adapt perfectly,” he added.
“I am a team player”
Regarding his role within the new team, Mumin made it clear that he arrives with the willingness to work for the group and make himself available to the coach. “I am here to give my best, not to be the leader of the team, but to help the club achieve its goals. I am a team player and am willing to play wherever the coach suggests,” he assured.
The Ghanaian central defender also emphasized the main goal with Girona: “I am here to return to the First Division as soon as possible.”
Mumin also compared his new team with Rayo Vallecano, where he played in recent seasons, and highlighted the differences in playing style. “I think football is a universal language. Whatever style you play, in the end, it’s football, and it’s very similar. At Rayo, the game is more vertical, while at Girona, it’s more about possession. Maybe that’s a bit of the difference, but you always find similarities in all clubs,” he concluded.
