Concerns over Jamal Musiala’s health have grown after the Bayern Munich star collapsed on the pitch for the second time in just a few days.
Musiala went down shortly after being introduced during Bayern’s final pre-season friendly against 1. FC Heidenheim on Tuesday. The incident comes just days after the Germany international suffered a similar episode in the closing stages of Bayern’s 3-1 Telekom Cup victory over RB Leipzig.
The latest collapse will inevitably raise questions about Musiala’s condition, although Bayern have not yet provided details about what caused the incident.
Speaking after the Heidenheim game, Bayern's Sporting Director Max Eberl said that Musiala would address the situation himself:
“Jamal will speak about this in the near future. We knew about it and we are aware of the situation,” Eberl told BILD. “Jamal will speak out. He’s in the dressing room, getting changed and taking a shower.”
Musiala’s first collapse occurred in the 83rd minute against Leipzig on Saturday. The 23-year-old suddenly went down, prompting his teammates to immediately call for medical assistance. An emergency doctor rushed onto the pitch as the stadium fell silent while Musiala received treatment.
After a short time, the doctor gave a thumbs-up, before Musiala eventually left the field looking dazed and dizzy.
Bayern subsequently played down concerns surrounding the attacking midfielder. Eberl told BILD that Musiala was doing well, while reports from Sport1 indicated that the player had suffered dizziness and circulatory problems amid temperatures of around 33 degrees Celsius in Munich.
Initial examinations by Bayern’s medical staff reportedly revealed nothing concerning, with Musiala expected to rest and recover over the following days.
However, Musiala was absent from Bayern’s individual training session at the club’s Campus on Monday, before now suffering another collapse just days later - and also just a few minutes after coming onto the pitch.
With the new Bundesliga season approaching, Bayern will now be hoping for clarity regarding Musiala’s condition as soon as possible. The club are yet to provide a detailed medical update following Tuesday’s incident.
