The NFL preseason is all about finding depth, and the Minnesota Vikings will need plenty of it this season if they’re going to get into the playoffs. They have their flagship pieces on both sides of the ball, but the rest of the roster is equally as important. And one player who has started to stick this preseason is Myles Price.
After spending last season primarily as a return specialist, Price may be breaking out as a legitimate pass-catching threat. He had a great camp, and he’s translated that into preseason action. He’s also been a standout during joint practices, including against the Baltimore Ravens.
Price only had one catch for eight yards on four targets against Baltimore, but his opening contest against the New York Giants was much louder. He finished that game with four catches for 51 yards and a touchdown. Through two preseason games, Price has five catches for 59 yards, averaging 11.8 yards per reception with a 62.5% catch rate.
Production for a receiver is going to be inconsistent, especially in the preseason with different quarterbacks in the lineup, but Price is starting to look like a real weapon.
He’s going to continue to be a threat on special teams as a punt and kick returner, but now he could also become a gadget player on offense who can be deployed in different packages. Price averaged 25.9 yards per kick return and 9.9 yards per punt return last season, so that part of his game is already established.
The Vikings already have an established wide receiver core with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and Jauan Jennings, but behind them, it’s wide open. No one should expect Price to be on the field constantly this season, but for certain packages, big-play opportunities and special looks, he’s certainly a player who’s shining in camp and making a name for himself.
