The grid is set for the NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Tyler Reddick was 31st in practice and likely had little hope for pole, but the 23XI Racing rocketed to the top of the charts in qualifying with 29.054s lap.
"I was really unhappy -- I can't recall a practice where I complained like that," said Reddick. "I think we just figured out what we need to try and work. Obviously, we have our things we want to work on for Sunday's race ... We just didn't get a great opportunity in practice to lay down a lap in clean air. The short run didn't seem that bad. We didn't have the lap, but the grip seemed to be there. But I just kind of committed -- I've got to qualifying good. Don't want to do what we did at Richmond and start in the 30s. Just had to commit. We did not have a good practice but that's a good way to turn it around."
Josh Berry will join him on the front row, missing out on his first-career pole by just 0.015s. The Wood Brothers Racing driver is still looking for a ride next season, but results like that will go a long way to securing him a seat.
"Statistically, this has been a very good track for me," said Berry, who finished second in this race last summer. "Hopefully, we can keep it rolling. It's hard to keep up an average like we've had, but I feel like we have a good car ... just need to maintain our track position and fight all day long."
He later said about his uncertain NASCAR future: "Trying to figure out what's next. My phone -- I'd love for it to ring this afternoon."
William Byron will start third, Denny Hamlin fourth, and Chase bubble driver Shane van Gisbergen snagged fifth despite battling starter issues.
Christopher Bell, Ty Gibbs, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson, and Alex Bowman filled out the remainder of the top ten.
There are also some big named deep in the field, including Chase Briscoe 17th, Joey Logano in 21st, Carson Hocevar 22nd, and Chase Elliott in 29th.
Daniel Suarez, who nearly crashed on his qualifying lap, will start 35th.
