The top spot in the MLS Supporters' Shield race is on the line as league leader Nashville SC hosts Inter Miami and Lionel Messi at Geodis Park on Aug. 15.
The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner is expected to take the field for Miami, a week after the death of his father, Jorge. In 12 career appearances against Nashville, Messi has scored 16 goals and provided four assists, but he was held to a single goal across two CONCACAF Champions Cup clashes earlier this season.
Nashville and Miami are both fresh off elimination from the Leagues Cup, each having defeated Liga MX's San Luis in the opening round and losing to Monterrey and León.
Nashville sits first in MLS on 40 points (12-4-2), but Miami looms just behind on 38 points (11-5-2).
