NC State will debut black camo alternate uniforms next month

When I first saw the new black alternate football helmet, I was pretty excited about the look … and then I saw the rest of it. NC State’s “Wolfpack Warriors” uniforms, which will be worn on 9/11, have a camo theme that doesn’t work, because camo-themed sports uniforms never do.

I like the extra-shiny numbering a little, though as with a lot of things Adidas does, there’s a bit of a discount-rack feel to the whole getup. But the helmet is very good; they should keep that in the rotation. At least we’re getting a good helmet out of this deal.

These uniforms are part of a series from Adidas called “Honor & Support,” and you may remember Miami’s version from last year, which was the subject of much derision.

Is Miami playing a football game or traipsing through Central American jungle, plotting the overthrow of a democratically-elected government on United Fruit’s behalf? We may never know.

Based on the standard set by that Miami look, NC State’s kit is outstanding. The matte black helmet reminded me of the alternates that State wore against Louisville in 2017. A much better look overall.
