Nebraska soccer (1-0-0) opened the 2026 season on the road against Louisville (0-1-0) on Wednesday night. The Huskers triumphed in the season opener, taking down the Cardinals, 3-1.
The win comes after Nebraska dropped a 3-1 exhibition match to Colorado State last Wednesday. Now, the Huskers pulled off a win against a Louisville team that received six votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The Cardinals are also coming off a second-round exit in the NCAA tournament last season.
Louisville outshot Nebraska on the day, 18-8, but Auburn transfer Avery Gillahan faced seven shots on goal in the win for the Huskers and earned six saves on the day. Nebraska only delivered six shots on goal but put three in the back of the net. The Huskers entered halftime up 2-0 and almost completed a 3-0 shutout before Louisville scored in the 89th minute.
Oregon State transfer Nathalie Lewis scored first for Nebraska, earning her goal off her only shot in the third minute. Ella Rudney delivered the second goal in the 25th minute on a penalty kick. Ava Makovicka made it 3-0 in the 78th minute. Both Makovicka and Rudney finished with two shots on goal.
Nebraska's next match is its home opener against South Dakota on Sunday afternoon. The match is set for 1:05 p.m. CT on B1G+.
