Just days before their season opener on ESPN, St. Joseph Regional (NJ), ranked in USA TODAY Sports East Region Super 15, has lost their head football coach to a two-week suspension.
Augie Hoffmann was suspended from coaching for violating school policies around offseason training, according to reporting from the Bergen Record.
He'll still be able to travel with the program from New Jersey to Chicago for the team’s game against Mount Carmel (IL), but will not be able to be on the field for that game, which is set to be nationally televised.
Offensive line coach Zach Naszimento will serve as the Green Knights' interim head coach.
It's not the first time Hoffmann's been suspended. Back in 2018, Hoffmann was handed down a suspension by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association for the first two games after a postgame fight between St. Joe's and Pope John in 2017.
In his second stint with the Green Knights, Hoffmann led St. Joseph to a Non-Public A state title in 2025 and the No. 1 ranking in the New Jersey Super 25 rankings. He is an alum of the school who went on to Chestnut Hill to play for Boston College before the NFL.
Hoffmann left St. Joseph following the 2019 season to work for Greg Schiano at Rutgers, a post he held for three seasons. He rejoined the program for the 2024 season.
