Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has officially requested a trade from the team.
Ray Petkau, Hellebuyck’s agent, released a statement from Hellebuyck confirming that he privately requested a trade several months ago and wanted to publicly confirm it since training camp is almost here.

“Winnipeg has been my home for my entire NHL career, and I will always be grateful for my time here,” Hellebuyck said. “I have never forgotten June 23, 2012. That’s the day Winnipeg took a chance on a goalie playing in Odessa, TX. I gave everything I had from that moment to prove that the Jets made the right decision.”
“Several months ago, I privately requested a trade. I have tried to handle the situation quietly and respectfully while giving the organization time to explore its options. With training camp approaching, I felt it was important to publicly confirm my request. My position has not changed, and I believe moving on is the best path forward for me and my family. I appreciate everything Winnipeg Jets fans have meant to me throughout my career and hope a resolution can be reached soon.”
Connor Hellebuyck’s greatnessThere will be no shortage of interest in Hellebuyck since he’s arguably the best goaltender in the world. He backstopped Team USA to its first Olympic Gold Medal in men’s hockey since 1980 in February. He also has three Vezina Trophies and one Hart Trophy.
The last thing he needs on his resume is a Stanley Cup, and it’s clear that he thinks he has a better chance of accomplishing that goal elsewhere.
We’ll see how the situation unfolds since the 2026-27 NHL season is set to start next month.
