With Nick Kyrgios getting suspended after testing positive for cocaine, his previous comments about Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek getting caught for doping have gone viral.

Kyrgios will serve an indefinite suspension handed out by the International Tennis Integrity Association (ITIA) after testing positive for cocaine.

And in the aftermath of the former Australian Open men’s doubles winner’s punishment, his previous comments about Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek have resurfaced.

Back in 2024, when both Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek reportedly tested positive for prohibited substances, Nick Kyrgios was perhaps the most outspoken figure in tennis.

He lambasted the two and suggested that he would never resort to using illegal substances, before saying that both of them having positive tests for banned substances was a bad look for the sport.

“I would never in my life try to dope in this sport. This is something that, especially going through an injury like I went through, there are things out there that can speed up healing, help me get back to prime levels, and help my recovery.

“There are so many things out there that are prohibited in our sport that I could have been doing to get me back quicker. Two years out of the sport in my prime… I was 28, competing for Wimbledon.

“That’s just not who I am. I have to be outspoken about it, because I don’t think there’s enough people that are speaking about it.

“I think people are trying to sweep it under the rug… It’s not fair treatment for every single player… He’s number one in the world, and he’s an amazing tennis player; I never said he is not.

“I just think the treatment has to be fair for everyone. It’s been handled horrifically in our sport. Two world #1s in our sport getting done for doping is disgusting for our sport. It is a horrible look.”

Of course, Kyrgios’ comments are now going viral once again given his own recent positive test for cocaine, which is also a prohibited substance.

While Kyrgios wasn’t using performance-enhancing drugs like some other athletes who have been caught doping in the past, he has come under heavy criticism for his actions.

And much of this criticism has to do with the moral high ground Kyrgios has taken on doping over the years, chastising his fellow athletes for their indiscretions multiple times in the past.

It’s unclear what the final ramifications of Kyrgios’ positive cocaine test will be, but the Australian is likely to face a lengthy ban.
