Nikola Bartunkova gets through all-Czech quarterfinal in Monterrey

Nikola Bartunkova is through to her second semifinal of the ​year after a 6-4, 6-7 (3), ‌6-3 win in an all-Czech matchup against Darja Vidmanova at the ​Abierto GNP Seguros on Thursday ​in Monterrey, Mexico.

Bartunkova survived eight ⁠double faults in part by ​saving nine of the 11 ​break points she faced. She converted four of her 12 break-point opportunities in ​the 2-hour, 44-minute match.

Next ​up for Bartunkova will be second-seeded Elise ‌Mertens. ⁠The Belgian topped Ukraine’s Yuliia Starodubtseva 6-1, 6-4 to reach her first semifinal in an ​individual event ​this ⁠year.

On the other side of the bracket, fifth-seeded ​Ann Li will clash with ​Diane ⁠Parry on Saturday. Li downed Alycia Parks 6-2, 6-3 in ⁠a ​quarterfinal matchup of ​U.S. players, while Parry got past Denmark’s ​Clara Tauson 6-3, 7-5.
