EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) has initiated an investigation into a physical altercation that occurred during last Friday's football matchup between Mayfield High School and Organ Mountain High School at the Field of Dreams.

According to a report by James Yodice from the Albuquerque Journal, the investigation by the NMAA was ongoing as of Monday and Tuesday. The association has yet to reach a conclusion regarding any potential disciplinary measures against those involved in the incident.

The scuffle took place in the second quarter, approximately seven minutes before halftime, as Organ Mountain was preparing to kick off to Mayfield. The situation escalated near midfield, prompting officials to intervene.

As of Tuesday, the NMAA confirmed to KTSM that no final decisions regarding disciplinary actions have been communicated to either school involved. Both Mayfield and Organ Mountain are awaiting further updates from the association.

Despite the investigation, Mayfield is scheduled to compete against their rivals, Las Cruces High School, this Friday night at the Field of Dreams, as reported by the Albuquerque Journal. The rivalry game is anticipated to be a significant event for both teams, regardless of the ongoing scrutiny from the NMAA.

Updates on the investigation and any potential disciplinary actions are expected to be announced shortly. KTSM will continue to monitor the situation and provide further information as it becomes available.
