San Francisco 49ers have come under scrutiny from former NFL offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz, who criticised the team’s drafting strategy and questioned the lack of impact players on the current roster.
The 49ers finished the 2025 regular season with a 12-5 record, placing third in the NFC West. They went 1-1 in the playoffs before falling in the Divisional Round.
However, injuries have been a recurring issue for the team, while their drafting strategy has also come under scrutiny.

“The problem, besides the injuries, is that they have drafted very poorly for four years now,” Schwartz said. “… But the rest of the roster, none of these guys are any impact players.”
Schwartz then pointed to third-year wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and second-year defensive end Mykel Williams as examples of first-round picks who have yet to make the desired impact.
“So these guys start getting hurt, which they’re getting hurt as they get older; there’s no one to backfill. There’s just no one there,” Schwartz said. “I think about the 49ers’ draft picks, and I’m like, ‘Who are the dudes? Who are the dudes right now?’ “
Pearsall has featured in just 13 games for the 49ers, recording 67 receptions for 928 yards across his two seasons.
Williams, meanwhile, managed 20 tackles and one sack in nine games last season before suffering an ACL injury.
