‘No Way Sophie Cunningham’s on a WNBA Roster in 2027′ — Fever Star Faces Heat After Going Scoreless in 91-85 Loss to Paige Bueckers’ Wings

Fever star Sophie Cunningham is under fire after a scoreless outing in Indiana’s 91-85 loss to Paige Bueckers and Dallas.

Sophie Cunningham went scoreless in the Indiana Fever’s 91-85 loss to Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings on Thursday. The veteran guard did help limit the Wings’ best player to 13 points on 5-for-16 shooting, but her own shot simply wasn’t there.

Cunningham’s dry spell in a tightly contested showdown in Dallas prompted strong reactions from the WNBA world.

Fever Star Sophie Cunningham Blasted After Scoreless Night in Close Loss to Paige Bueckers’ Wings

Thursday was the first time this season that Cunningham failed to score a single point. The last time she went scoreless was on Aug. 17 last year, when she played just 10 minutes after tearing her right MCL in Indiana’s 99-93 overtime win against the Connecticut Sun. Her season ended after the injury.

This time, though, it was simply a rough night. Cunningham went 0-for-4 and finished without a point in 15 minutes.

Following her underwhelming performance against the Wings, the WNBA community couldn’t resist trolling her display.

“It’s no way Sophie Cunningham is on a WNBA roster in 2027, ngl this is horrific stuff,” a Houston sports supporter wrote.

“Sophie Cunningham scored 0 points in 15 minutes for the Fever tonight. Thought I’d share these stats, since she wants us to talk about basketball now,” a sports observer added.

“SOPHIE ‘SUPERSTAR’ CUNNINGHAM TONIGHT. 15 minutes. 0 points. 0 rebounds. 0 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. Literally, what does she do?” a Seattle Mariners supporter wondered.

“She sucks. Lmao,” a WNBA supporter claimed.

Despite failing to make one shot in four attempts, Cunningham still had her backers, though.

“Hate it had to be Dallas, but Fever were due for a loss anyways. And Sophie Cunningham needs to shoot more. Stephanie White should please stop nerfing Sophie or Fever keeps losing,” a self-proclaimed Rugby and WNBA reviewer tweeted.

“At least run a play for Sophie Cunningham. What type of coach is this, Stephanie White?” another basketball observer blamed White.

Cunningham has been in the headlines in recent weeks after expressing her belief that women’s sports should be exclusive to biologically born females. The stance has proved polarizing, creating a circus that has followed the Fever.

Early this month, the eight-year pro urged the WNBA media to keep the focus on basketball and “keep the main thing the main thing.”

This season, she is averaging 8.6 points per game on 47.4% shooting, including 44.4% from beyond the arc. She has been one of the Fever’s most dependable players off the bench.

One bad shooting night doesn’t erase that body of work, but it gave her critics plenty of ammunition after the final buzzer in Dallas.
