The 2026 Kentucky high school football season has kicked off, and with it comes the inaugural statewide media poll, showcasing the top teams in the state. After just two weeks of play, several teams have already emerged as strong contenders for the state title in Classes 3A, 4A, and 6A. Notably, Beechwood has made a significant impact by debuting at No. 1 in Class 2A following a dominant performance against Indian Hill.

Despite uncertainties surrounding various Northern Kentucky teams as the season began, the rankings reveal that at least one local team has secured a spot in each classification. This is a testament to the competitive spirit and talent present in the region, which has consistently produced strong football programs.

The media poll is compiled based on the votes of 16 media members from across Kentucky, with Jason Frakes of the Louisville Courier-Journal overseeing the process. The rankings reflect not only the teams' current records but also their performances and potential as the season progresses.

In KHSAA Class 6A, the top-ranked team is Trinity, holding the first place with 16 votes, followed by Manual and Frederick Douglass. Among the local teams, Ryle stands at ninth with a record of 1-1, indicating that they are in the mix but will need to continue improving to climb higher in the rankings.

Moving to KHSAA Class 5A, Scott County leads the pack with eight first-place votes, while Owensboro and Pulaski County follow closely behind. Cooper, another Northern Kentucky team, is tied for eighth place, showcasing the competitive nature of this class.

In KHSAA Class 4A, Boyle County maintains the top position with 16 votes, while Covington Catholic and Highlands are tied for fourth, both holding a record of 1-1. This highlights the strength of the Northern Kentucky teams in this class, as they continue to vie for higher standings.

Class 3A sees Christian Academy at the top, with Lloyd Memorial making a strong showing at fourth place with a record of 2-0. This ranking reflects Lloyd Memorial's solid start to the season and positions them as a team to watch in the coming weeks.

Beechwood's debut at No. 1 in Class 2A underscores their strong start, with a record of 1-0. This early success is crucial as they aim to maintain their momentum throughout the season. Other notable teams in this class include Lexington Christian and Owensboro Catholic, both of which are also ranked highly.

Finally, in KHSAA Class A, Raceland leads with 10 votes, while Holy Cross (Covington) rounds out the top ten. This class features a mix of traditional powerhouses and emerging teams, making for an exciting season ahead.
