GREEN BAY, Wis. — In a significant move for college football fans, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have officially designated Lambeau Field as their home venue for an upcoming game. This decision is particularly noteworthy given that the Wisconsin Badgers, located two and a half hours away, are traditionally the team associated with the state’s most iconic stadium.
The choice to hold a Notre Dame home game at this historic location reflects the deep-rooted connections between the Fighting Irish and the Green Bay Packers, both of which have storied histories in American football. Aaron Osland, president of the Notre Dame Club of Northeastern Wisconsin and an alumnus of the university, expressed excitement about the weekend's events. "It’s gonna be a wonderful weekend," he stated, highlighting the enthusiasm among Notre Dame fans for the chance to experience a game at Lambeau Field.
Osland emphasized the significance of this event, noting that it allows fans to engage with the rich history shared between the two teams. "There’s a lot of shared history between Green Bay and the Packers and Notre Dame," he remarked. Many fans may be familiar with Paul Hornung, a Hall of Fame running back for the Packers who won the Heisman Trophy while playing for Notre Dame. However, fewer may know that Curly Lambeau, the Packers' founder, played under the legendary coach Knute Rockne at Notre Dame.
As the weekend approaches, Notre Dame supporters are encouraged to wear blue to the game to show their allegiance. In addition to the game itself, there are numerous activities planned to enhance the experience for Fighting Irish fans. The weekend's festivities kick off with the Shamrock Kickoff on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Titletown, featuring a DJ, the Notre Dame Cheer team, the Notre Dame Leprechaun, yard games, and a photo booth.
Following the kickoff celebration, fans can enjoy a Notre Dame Band Concert from 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., also at Titletown. Later that evening, a Drummers Circle will take place from 8:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the weekend.
On Sunday, the festivities continue with a Notre Dame Family Mass from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Nativity of Our Lord Parish. Additionally, the Under Armour Fan Activation event will run from 12:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Titletown, inviting fans to create their ultimate game-day identity through face and body painting, custom hair designs, and sign-making. This event will also provide fans with a close-up look at the special Shamrock Series uniforms that the Notre Dame players will wear during the game.
Finally, the weekend culminates with the Titletown Gameday Live event from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Titletown Stage, featuring live music, food, beverages, games, and opportunities for fans to capture memorable photos.
With a packed schedule of events and the excitement of a game at one of football's most revered venues, Notre Dame fans are gearing up for an unforgettable weekend in Green Bay.
