The New York Giants had a real scare in their joint practice with the Miami Dolphins as rookie guard Francis Mauigoa left the field and went inside with a trainer.
Those on the scene down in Miami report that Mauigoa went inside without his helmet or pads, raising concerns that he might have a real injury.

— Pat Leonard (@PLeonardNYDN) August 20, 2026We didn’t hear much over the next half-hour or so, until Jordan Raanan of ESPN reported that the issue with Mauigoa doesn’t seem to be serious. He adds that Mauigoa is believed to have a “heat-related issue”.
Rookie first-round pick Francis Mauigoa left practice in Miami. It's not believed to be serious. A heat-related issue.
Humidity is off the charts in South Florida.
Dolphins wide receiver A.J. Henning also went inside with a trainer shortly after Mauigoa.
And now it's Dolphins WR A.J. Henning's turn to head to the medical facility accompanied by a trainer.
— Alain Poupart (@PoupartNFL) August 20, 2026There’s currently a heat advisory in effect for Miami, with the temperature at 91 degrees and the heat index at 103 thanks to humidity. It wouldn’t be a surprise at all if the teams’ training staffs are being particularly careful to avoid dehydration on a steamy day in the southeast. Not only does dehydration pose its own risks, it makes other injuries more likely.
Mauigoa did return to the field for the end of practice, though he was accompanied by a trainer.
Mauigoa just walked outside toward the end of practice with training staff. So he’s around https://t.co/lPpZkwNlmN
— Pat Leonard (@PLeonardNYDN) August 20, 2026For now, we’re waiting for an official update from head coach John Harbaugh after practice.
