Dayann Methalie (20) has completed a move to AFC Sunderland. The move had been in doubt when the Toulouse FC academy product underwent his medical on Wearside. Concerns were raised about a back problem, but the deal has now gone through regardless.
For the move to be completed, Methalie had to undergo further medical tests back in Toulouse. Those tests reassured the Black Cats, who decided to follow through with the transfer worth €28m plus up to another €5m in potential add-ons. For Le TéFéCé, Methalie’s move to the Stadium of Light represents a record sale. It has been a fruitful summer for the club. Emersonn’s move to Ipswich Town earlier in the window had already represented a new club record, whilst Charlie Cresswell’s move to Stade Rennais is also one of the most expensive in their history.
Methalie’s move comes after last season’s breakthrough. The left-back will look to settle quickly in the Premier League and perhaps soon push for a place in the France squad.
