Borussia Dortmund have announced the signing of 27-year-old PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joey Veerman in a five-year deal lasting until June 30, 2031.
The announcement comes a day after the Black and Yellows secured the services of Greek international Giannis Konstantelias from PAOK Thessaloniki.
Following a transfer window in which BVB mainly focused on signing teenage players with huge potential, the club have now turned their attention to experienced players who can immediately make an impact.
When the signing of Veerman was announced, Dortmund’s managing director Lars Ricken stated: “Joey is a player who will help us enormously with his abilities. We have deliberately focused our transfer activities this summer on the central midfield, because we have let go of two players there since the beginning of the year – Pascal Groß and Salih Özcan – and with Emre Can we plan to play in central defense after his return to the team.”
Meanwhile, sporting director Ole Book, who has been receiving plaudits for the way he has approached the transfer market, said: “Joey is a truly fantastic footballer who possesses a great deal of creativity, technique, and vision. He has shown at PSV Eindhoven and with the Dutch national team that he can consistently deliver top-level performances. We are delighted that he will be bringing his qualities to our game in the future.”
Veerman joined PSV in 2022 from SC Heerenveen and managed to win three league titles, two Dutch caps and three Dutch Super Cups. He has made a total of 198 appearances for PSV, scoring 31 goals. He has also made 16 appearances for the Netherlands senior team with one goal to his name.
Upon joining Dortmund, Veerman said: “Borussia Dortmund is a big club in Europe, and I am proud to now be a part of this club. I am incredibly happy to be here and want to celebrate successes together with BVB.”
