Caleb Bonemer keeps adding to what has been an outstanding second full season as a professional in the Chicago White Sox minor league system.
The latest accomplishment for the Okemos graduate came Wednesday, Aug. 12, when he slugged his 30th home run of the season in the Double-A Birmingham Barons' 4-3 loss to the Columbus Clingstones. The homer was part of a three-hit night for Bonemer, who finished just a double shy of the cycle.
With his latest blast, the 20-year old Bonemer became the first White Sox prospect to slug 30 home runs in a season since current major leaguer Luis Robert Jr. in 2019. Robert had 32 homers between three stops in the minors that season.
Bonemer has shown a big power jump this year in his second full season in professional baseball since being selected by the White Sox with the No. 43 overall pick in the 2024 MLB draft. The third baseman and shortstop hit just 12 home runs in 107 games during his pro debut in 2025. Bonemer has reached the 30-homer milestone in just 104 games this season, including 12 in 43 games since a mid-season promotion to Double-A Birmingham.
Bonemer's success is even more impressive when considering he's still just 20 years old — he doesn't turn 21 until Oct. 5. The average age of hitters in Double-A is 24, according to Baseball America, with even many top prospects not reaching that level until they're 22 or 23.
Bonemer is is rated as the White Sox top prospect and the No. 16 prospect in all of baseball by MLB Pipeline.
