One of Texas A&M's 2026 SEC opponents loses star safety to injury

Texas A&M's 2026 schedule, like all 16 SEC programs, will now include nine conference games for the first time this season, likely resulting in more 9-3 and 8-4 finishes and creating more issues for the College Football Playoff Selection Committee. However, several teams will rise to the occasion late in the year, while the Aggies face a brutal second-half schedule that will define their season.

Entering his third season at the helm, coach Mike Elko made significant strides in Year 2 after leading the Aggies to the CFP for the first time in program history, while quarterback Marcel Reed, in his first full starting season, threw for a career-high 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, coupled with over 500 yards and six scores.

Returning 65% of the 2025 roster, paired with 17 transfer portal additions and the 2026 signing class, Texas A&M's 2026 roster is built to withstand the nine-game schedule while avoiding the injury up so far through eight preseason practices. Later in the year, the Aggies will host Tennessee before facing Oklahoma in Norman, who will reportedly be without one of their top defenders.

On Saturday, it was confirmed that star safety Edrees Farooq, who finished tied for third on the team with 76 tackles, two interceptions, and three pass deflections, suffered a knee injury, specifically a torn torn Patellar Tendon that will keep him out for the entire 2026 season.

This is a significant blow to the Volunteers' secondary, especially for a defense that was looking to take another step this fall.
