Matayo Uiagalelei knows how hard it is to play college football at the highest level and tries to minimize as many distractions as possible, even if they're caused by his own father.
Oregon's standout linebacker was asked at a recent press conference about the difficulty of staying locked in during the social media age, and admitted that he keeps his dad at a distance on social media because of the attention his activity brings.
“The most posts I would see about from myself is from my dad. I didn’t unfollow my dad, but I muted his account so I don’t see all of his posts,” Uiagalelei said. “I talk to him a lot so…I don’t need to see all that.”
Hilarious moment at Matayo Uiagalelei's presser today as @RyanTClarke asks about players trying to stay off of social media:
"Shoot, I'm gonna be honest, I feel like the most posts I see about myself is from my dad (@DUiagalelei)... I muted his account so I don't see all his… pic.twitter.com/M6wfv2KMXx
While Matayo Uiagalelei tries to keep the noise down on social media, his father Dave Uiagalelei has doubled down on his enthusiasm for his sons' football careers.
His father posted on social media, "Both my sons mute my posts, that will never stop me from being the BIGGEST ADVOCATE for my kids!!! The fact that Matayo doesn't want to see any post about himself, kudos to the father who raised him to be humble and focused."
Oregon's season starts on Sept. 5 against Boise State.
